How to make a living room a welcoming space?

I have an empty living room. I have 1,000 and some nice brown furniture on the way (not part of the 1,000 budget). What can I do to make my living room inviting?

  • Maybe a plant or two, or some fresh flowers?

  • Plants and pictures and a couple of your collectibles (more than a couple is clutter). Some throw pillows and a couple of well placed tables and lamps.

  • Lighting is everything. Make sure you have lighting that you are comfortable with. Paint the walls if they are plain white right now. Also hang some pictures and put out plants and family photos. Also end tables but be sure to put coasters in there if you plan on letting people have beverages in there. I would also set a basket in there and fill it board games and cards and stuff.

  • Good window treatments are important so you can control the amount of light and your privacy. They will also help to make your home more energy efficient.
