Are you saving for your children's college education?

  • Yes. Started saving from the time I got pregnant. Oldest goes off to college in the fall, youngest has a few more years-their college costs are more than taken care of at this point. We did not use any of those 529 plans or anything like that either ... we did it old school ... paid off our mortgage early, saved regularly and anything extra automatically went into savings as well, we lived off 1 salary (even though we were both working) and we lived off the smaller of the 2 salaries, etc. Our retirement accounts are fully funded as well.

  • Here's hoping that she uses it but yes - my daughters college is mostly paid for via the Florida Prepaid College plan - i've been paying into it since she was 7 years old.

  • Not a college fund per se, but when DD was born, my job was eliminated. With the severance package, DH met with a financial planner and he set us up with an IRA that when she is ready for school, we will be able to get money out of for college with no penalty.

  • Yes, I could be contributing more but I hope to have the house paid off before they start college.
