  • There are lots of reasons for stillborn births. Diseases, people not getting proper prenatal care etc. All you can do is live a healthy lifestyle, take your vitamins, dont do anything strenuous, listen to your doctor and pray for the best.

  • There are so many factors that cause a stillborn baby. Don't let it worry you though. Chances are if you do get pregnant your baby will develop just fine and be a happy healthy, crying baby when you deliver him/her!!

  • Stillborns and miscarriages can happen to any one of us women...It is very rarely caused by anything the mother did or did not do while pregnant. The only thing we can do is be as healthy as possible; seek obgyn care before you become pregnant and during the entire pregnancy, take your prenatal vitamins and listen to your doctor etc. Life is an uncertain thing.

  • Sometimes its from outside factors like a car crash for instance and some you cant do anything about. My Aunt had a still born around 36-37 weeks because the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. Some people are lucky (well babies are lucky) because the mother can go her whole pregnancy doing drugs and the babies make it.

  • There are many causes for pregnancy loss- early miscarriage (in the first trimester) is more common than later m/c or stillbirth. Other than the basics (eat healthy, don't drink or smoke or use drugs, get prenatal care) there is not a lot you can do. Generally these sad incidents are not due to anything that the mom did or didn't do.

  • Nothing you can do to 100% prevent it, proper health care can reduce the odds.

  • I'm terrified of this happening to me :( It's a horrible, horrible thing and I feel so bad to anyone it happens to. But I agree with what everyone said above, if it's going to happen it's going to happen, there's really nothing you can or can't do to prevent it. You could have the healthiest pregnancy and the best doctor in the entire world looking after you...and something could still happen in the womb that can't be controlled.

But please don't let that discourage you. Happy, healthy babies are born every second of every day.

  • If it will help you to feel at ease, get one of the monitors that allows you to hear your baby's heartbeat. And try to not think about it. Try to relax.
