Cake mix help please

Can I "dress" up a cake mix by ribboning jam or perserves into it before baking?

  • I dunno about jam... I know a handful of sprinkles, a tabs of vanilla or orange extract is good. Jam is excellent between the layers though!

  • What do you mean by ribboning? If it's drizzled over the top, it'll get sucked in and be lost in the middle somewhere. I would personally bake the cake, then torte it, and add the layer of jam between the cake layers (with a little icing under so it doesn't soak in) then ice it.

  • I've added a bit of instant coffee. That is if making chocolate cake. It gives more depth to cake.
    But I wouldnt see why not add some jam...
