Do I have to get my DD's tested?

My mom had Thyroid cancer when she was 12yo. They tested me when I was born to see if I carried her gene, and I was negative. My brother just got tested, and he does carry her gene. My question is since I don't carry her gene, does that mean my dd's aren't going to either?

  • I would have them do a simple thyroid blood test yearly. If there is an issue with her thyroid the blood work will identify it first. Better safe then sorry.

  • I'd ask my doctor, or check with webmd on line. And even then I might just get her check for my own peace of mind.

  • Was the gene not present, or was it just not dominant?

I personally would test just in case.

  • I am going to test, just to ease my mind. The gene wasn't present, I think that's what it was.....I am going to get retested myself just to be on the safe side. Thanks ladies
