Do you eat the skin of your baked potato?

Before I knew my husband...I wouldn't. It was always just like a shell to me. When I met him and I saw him eat the whole baked potato...I asked him about it. Nutrition is on the outside too...as long as the dirt's been scrubbed off...the skin is also a healthy part of the potato he says. Made sense to me...though I have to smother butter for flavoring on it before I can eat it now.

Just wondering if anyone else eats the skin of the baked potato.

  • No i don't. Commercially grown potatoes are treated with more pesticides and herbicides than any other vegetable and these toxic substances concentrate in the skin . The skin is only safe to eat if other things have had a nibble as bugs will not nibble toxic spudskins

  • Yep. When I do mine after I scrub them I rub them with olive oil then sprinkle a generous amount of garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper that has been mixed together. Wrap in foil with the dull side out and bake. The skin never gets hard or dried out and it adds a ton of flavor.

  • I never used to, but I have hypertension and the peel is a good source of potassium and magnesium so I try. I even leave some skin on when making mashed potatoes for that reason as well.

  • That's the best part, especially if it's a little crispy. I love potato skins.
