How to quickly thaw a 3-4 lb roast

I forgot to get it out of the freezer this morning and I want to put it in the crock pot in the morning.

I don't want to put it in fully frozen for what I am cooking.

Best way to thaw it without loosing all the blood (flavor) out of it?

  • Do NOT EVER THAW RAW MEAT IN WARM WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This came from the health dept. Run COLD water in the sink and put the roast in the cold water, keep cold water slowly running on the roast.

Thawing in warm water lets bacteria grow on the meat.

  • maybe try setting it in the sink in a large bowl with the packaging still on and let cold water run over it for a while, turning it every so often. If you defrost in microwave it may start to cook it..I hate thawing stuff out that way :/
    Good Luck!

  • I stick mine in frozen on low setting until dinner and it comes out hot enough in the middle.

  • I'd stay away from the microwave since it's red meat. I'd soak in in warm water for about an hour or so then stick it in the crock pot.
