  • Stick up for her. It's not nice to gossip.

  • defend her respectfully, talk about her better qualities, what good she does with her life, how cute her family is and ask them if they know FOR sure all this gossip is true.

  • I think I would just mention that she is a friend if they have any self-respect they will not speak like that about her in front of you again.

  • I would just say "Oh I know her, she is actually a good friend of mine." That should stop them.

  • I'd say 'Sorry, I am staying out of this one, her and I are friends'. Then they'd probably either shutup, look at me like I'm insane, or start stumbling over their words trying to find something nice to say. That's usually how gossips react when you say something like that.

  • Tell them that you do not appreciate the way they are talking about your friend. She is not there to defend herself.

  • Tell them you don't feel comfortable listening to this because she is your friend. If they don't stop just get up and leave.
