Why is it that some womens milk does not come in?

  • Lots of times, baby wasn't put to the breast quickly enough after birth and wasn't allowed to nonstop nurse at first.

    only 2% of women actually cannot nurse due to IGT or no milk. Sometimes, it takes a bit for it to come in, like days..and mom mistakes this as needing to supplement cause her to make less because she supplemented to soon. Baby can live off colostrum for days on end, but, it seems like not enough And if baby is constantly eating, they confuse that with not getting enough. When it's really baby's way of helping you make more.

  • Plenty of answers to that question; genetics, diet, medication, stress, hormones...any number of reasons. Lactation nurses can advise you the best way to improve your milk production.

  • Sometimes its diet or stress, medications. It can be any number of things. There are lots of things you can do to improve lactation though! Talk to a lactation nurse if youre concerned about it.
