  • If you are pregnant and constipated, it is often caused by the iron supplements in prenatal vitamins. You can buy collace at your local pharmacy or drug store. It is completely safe, and it is simply a stool softener. If you take this with your vitamins, you should see your problem going away. Ask your pharmacist for dosage recommendations, and start with a low dose and work up to wear you get relief.
If that doesn't work, you can ask your doctor for a safe laxative or suppository, and you can also lay off the iron supplements and eat some iron fortified cereal and a glass of O.J. instead.

If you are not pregnant and not taking supplements, you can still take the stool supplements, and you can add a stimulant laxative at night. You will also want to make sure that your diet includes an appropriate amount of healthy fats, fluids, and fiber. If you do increase fiber, do it slowly or you will get big time bloat.

  • Shocked no has said eat more fruits and vegetables. Lentils and other legumes are also good at keeping you regular. Prune juice is too disgusting, IMO, but it does do the job. And yes, lots of water all the time.
