Can you get STD's from a toilet seat? (HPV)

I found out a member of my household has genital warts O_O

Can I get it from a razor, or soap, or toilet seat???

  • Unless both people are shaving their pubic areas with the same razor, it's unlikely they got it from any of those methods. However, HPV often goes undetected for a very long time. About half of the American population has it, actually: it's so common that it's not frequently even tested for. So unless you were both virgins and have only slept with each other, there's a good chance it was contracted before you met (or if this was your child, they're very likely having sex).

  • Also, genital warts and HPV are not necessarily the same thing. But they are rarely contracted from anything other than direct skin to skin contact.

  • Direct contact with someone with the virus.Heavy petting, oral or intercourse. Child birth can transmit to the baby as well from Mom. NO toilet seats or razors or anything like that.

  • I don't think you can, but I would say don't use the soap/razor that he uses, and lysol the toilet seat before you use it if you are too worried about getting it from that.
