How do you know when an onion has gone bad?

i bought one two or three weeks ago and am just now wanting to use it, how can you tell if it's good?

  • Yep - they get GROSS. You'll know. Onions can keep for a long time. If your finger goes through its bad! :)

  • Cut it open and look. If the outside looks mushy, toss the onion in the compost. I keep all my onions in the fridge. I buy just a few at a time and let the supermarket deal with waste.
