How do you do this?

How do you divide when the dividend is smaller than the divisor. Example: 7/42 or
12/3612.

I need the dumbies version.

Thanx!

  • you end up with a decimal.

put the 42 in front of the division box and then the 7.00 (or how ever many 0s are needed) in it.  put a zero above the 7, then the decimal, then put 42 into 70, continue on.

  • on paper?
    42 into 7.0000
    So 42 into 700 is 16 with 28 leftover
    42 into 280 is 6 with 28 leftover

    So .16666

  • same was you do normal division but you put a decimal after number and add zeros before dividing.
EX: 7 / 42 actually would become 7.0/42 giving you the answer of .1666
    Hope this helps
