Do you let your ds/dd pick his/her own clothes?

I let them advise but I have the final say. My famous line is when you turn 18 you can wear whatever you want. BTW I have 12 and 8yr old daughters and 10, 6, and 5yr old sons.

  • Yeah I let my 4 yr old pick out what she wants to wear....but of course I have final veto because she WILL want to wear her tutu and some rain boots if I let her! LOL

  • Our kids were picking out what they wanted to wear from their clothes at home very young. Certainly by age 5. We shopped together and I had the last word for appropriateness when shopping, but then they could wear any combination of the clothes they wanted.

  • Yep, I let both my kids pick out their own clothes.. I have final say because I don't want them going out looking silly or incorrectly dressed for the weather.

  • My son is 3 1/2 and he usually picks out his own clothes. If the outfit is too crazy I ask him to change before we go out in public.

  • I have parameters set for church, collared shirts, bottoms with no holes, clean shoes, school as long as it is within dress code I don't fuss TOO much (My 10 yo I will put my foot down on some choices). If we are going somewhere where their clothing reflects on our family then I will give more input then if they are just hanging out with friends. My under 18 group is 14 yo b 10 yo b 7 yo g.

  • My son is 6 and rarely cares. I pick out most of what he wears. Sometimes I will ask him between a couple shirts & he'll give his opinion. My daughter is 5 and cares much more about what she wears. I don't let her wear dress up clothes outside (they're not as machine washer durable) but other than that, i am pretty flexable.
