  • My kids will go to sports or other extra curricular activities, hanging at a friend's house instead of ours, going to the park or hanging in our yard on their own (I have 2 who are old enough to roam in the neighborhood.)

  • On Friday nights, I let my daughters have a "sleepover" in one of their bedrooms. They bring their stuffed animals and watch a movie together. They've been doing this since they were approximately 4 and 6 years old. They'll stay in there for hours, just playing and watching DVD's. It's a special treat for them, and it frees my husband and I to watch our own movie or something downstairs.

As far as a longer break, I guess you'd hope you have relatives close by who might take them for several hours, or an overnight at their house.

  • I work two nights a week, my 4 year old goes to preschool two days a week, and every once in awhile my kids stay at my sister's or my mom's house. Also my kids go to bed around 9pm and my husband and I stay up until 11 or 12 so we have some time together. Very rarely my husband works late and I get to have some alone time.
