What age is appropriate for girls to get a bra?

My DD is 10 and says she wants a bra, but she hasn't developed yet.

Thoughts? Should I get her a training bra?

  • When the boobies start coming in, why would any of them need one before.

  • 10 or 11 for a training bra if they havent started to develop at all, other than that as soon as she starts to develop. I have a friend her daughter is nine and has boobs.

  • I dont think its a particular age but them asking for one or them showing signs od developing is a good cue to start.Even if its those under tshirt sport bra types...she may feel more comfortable.

  • I think I got mine when I was 11 or 12 - and I sure did not have boobs yet. It was my mom's idea. We just had those fabric training bras, my sister and I. I remember being jealous because my sister (who is 2 years younger than me) got to get one at the same time as me. :P

  • If she wants one, girls are probably starting to wear them. I would get one.

  • If she is asking for one I'd say get her a training bra. She may have friends that have already started wearing them and thats why she wants one. It's ok to let her start now. Training bra or sports bra would be fine til she develops more.

  • My daughter is 12yrs old, and I got her a training bra cause I can see a little growth when she wears fitted tops and the t-shirts don't cover no more

  • @ diamondsky- yea, she has mentioned it. she said her friend who is 9 has boobs! that's just so early.

  • I remember in 6th grade (and I did not need one till maybe 8th) at a sleepover, the other girls were all showing off their bras to each other (I don't know if they needed them or not). It was a very uncomfortable time for me. I didn't want one, but I didn't want them to point out how weird I was either. That may be the kind of issue she's dealing with.
