  • When he is ready. this can be that he is dry for a short period of time after nightime or naps, is showing signs of being interested in the potty.
While it is nice to have them trained before a new baby, if he isn't ready, you will be fighting a losing battle.

  • He needs to be ready before you try. If he isn't ready then you will be fighting a very long battle and a lot of accidents. I used a method on my DD that worked and she was trained before she was 2 and then we moved. After 7 mos in our new place she started training herself (2 mos ago), and today she pooped in the potty. It takes time. Just be patient.

  • Wait until he is ready. The most obvious sign would be him not wanting to be in a wet or dirty diaper. He may not be ready for another year.....

  • I know we all want them out of diapers before the next but if you have an agenda it may translate into pressure at his end. So, if you want another one sooner rather than later you may have to let go of the early potty training. Wait and see what happens, it's a bit too early now - but you can have him sit and get used to the idea, get lots of books on going on the potty for him to look at and make sure to follow his level of excitement. If he seems interested keep offering to sit if not don't bother with it. Another thing I like to do at this age, and it's a pain but worth it, is start changing diapers on the bathroom floor on a changing mat. No more changing table, get him used to the idea that these types of routines happen in the bathroom. But I agree with previous postings, probably wont be ready for another year! Good luck!
