Do you let those who have not had a flu shot hold your 1 year old?

I never had a flu shot this year. My best friend had her first son a year ago now. I've never been allowed to hold the baby a year later cause I didn't have none this year. I wasn't this paranoid with my kids. anyone else?

  • That seems a bit much. I would totally sneeze on her son.

  • My children are 5, 7, and 8 and have never had a flu shot. They won't have a flu shot while I'm making their decisions either. I think your friend is overly paranoid.

  • Nope...if that would have been the case, DH or I never would have held DD as a baby.

But I can't blame your friend. She's a parent who doesn't want her baby to get sick. Paranoid, maybe, but she's obviously trying to be the best parent she can be. Kudos to her for sticking to her guns!

  • That flu shot DOES NOT prevent you from getting or passing the flu on to others. Some new mommy's are just clueless when it comes to what a shot does or dosnt prevent. And yes, brand new Moms tend to be over paranoid with the first kid.

  • my kids always gets vaccinated including me and dh, but I never cared on who held my kids. Well at a year no unless they were sick as babies I wouldn't allow people that were sick and then I didn't care about adults, but kids I had wash their hands before touching the baby.

  • I have 4 kids (now grown) & 1 granddaughter. NONE of us has ever taken a flu shot. I was never worried about the kids catching the flu. They stand a better chance getting from school than anywhere else. The bottom line is, if you know someone is sick in any way, don't let them hold your baby. It's only common sense. But, to the extreme you speak of, that's just plain paranoia with control issues.

  • We don't get the flu shot, so...I didn't worry about it. In fact, I am not sure anyone had flu shots when my son was a baby.

  • Did she get her son vaccinated? If she's worried about him getting it and is so "for" vaccinating against it, then why doesn't she just get him vaccinated so she doesn't have to ask EVERYone he comes into contact with if they've had one? ???
