SS Card Name Change....

My husband was awarded custody of my son yesterday and my son was born in AL but we live in GA.....Does anyone know if i have to go to AL to get his SS Card change to his new name?

  • The SS office will tell you exactly how to go about it. Call them.

  • no, social security is nationwide not state to state. all you have to do is bring all of your legal documents proving that he was awarded custody, along with your son's original birth certificate and social security card (and i believe another form of identity like an immunization record) to the office and they will change his name. its a similar process to having your name changed when you're married. congratulations!

  • Thanks! I don't know why I haven't thought of that. I have been a little out of it with everything going on and I guess was trying to make it a bigger deal than it had to be....SOOO I am closing this question already. thanks!
