  • I had an episiotomy with my first child. The doctor actually told my while he was sewing my up that he was, "Sewing me a quilt." If my legs weren't still numb I would have ninja kicked him in the head for that comment. LOL

  • I had a small tear with the first 2, but nothing terrible. I only had stitches with the first--4 that dissolved on their own. With my third, no tear or swelling at all down below.

  • I didn't tear nor did I have an episiotomy  (thank god!!) I didn't do anything at all. I told my husband if they even uttered the word episiotomy then to take my ass home because there was no way in hell I wanted them to cut from my vagina to my asshole!!  Makes me cringe just thinking about it.  (so sorry about the language, but that is the one thing about childbirth that makes me ill)

  • No tear or cut!! I had a all natural birth (which may have helped because labor went at my natural speed)

I did do the perianal massage (well, husband did it) a few times a week since 36 wks. I think I just used some olive oil, but I may be mistaken.

Don't let anyone rush your labor... especially your pushing.

  • I didn't really tear. (I had some surface tears that didn't hurt, but they stitched me which hurt - I shouldn't have even had stitches.) I had a natural labor as well. I didn't do any massage or anything like that. The key is to not rush your labor and listen to your body. I only pushed for 15 - 20 minutes and only 5 minutes of true pushing.

  • I've had 3 children and never tore or epesiotomy! I didn't do anything special before. Just lucky I guess. With my last baby, who was 8 lb 4oz, I didn't even take the fancy water bottle home cuz I wasn't in pain.

  • I didn't tear or anything, and I was even induced! It probably helped that my babe was 4 weeks early, so he was still a little small (6 lbs 8 oz) but I never did any massage or anything. My labor was rushed, too, because my damn doctor was leaving and said, "Well, if you want me to deliver this baby, you better start pushing!" even though I wasn't ready. So I was just lucky, I guess. But I'm getting a different doctor this time.
