Awe crap...I forgot the egg color kit.

And I have kids ready to color eggs this morning. Eeek. I have food coloring, vinegar, and koolaid packets on hand. I was reading online that I could use these, but do they work well? And which would work better? If you have made your own dye at home, what gives the best results?

  • My stepmom has always used food coloring and vinegar when we dye eggs. She caved and bought egg coloring kits this year (since their two three year old grankids would be more into it - the kits came with stickers) and they didn't turn out nearly as well as our eggs always did with food coloring!

  • I'd think either one would work. Food coloring may work better.

  • We always used food coloring and vinegar to color eggs when I was growing up. We never used an egg coloring kit. Here is a link to a recipe. It even has a ink to a 'Color Creator' if you want different colors.

  • Food coloring and vinegar will work just fine. You have to add vinegar to the egg color packages anyways. So use food color and vinegar.

  • I ended up trying with the koolaid because I figured if it didn't work, we would only be out 50 cents, and I could only find 3 colors of food coloring. They ended up turning out. I did use the vinegar and they came out bright and nice. Crisis averted. LOL
