Has anyone tried to roast chick peas?
If so, how did you do it?

  • Roasted Chick Peas - an awesome snack!
    Ingredients
1 (12 ounce) can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    salt (optional)
    garlic salt (optional)
    cayenne pepper (optional)
    Directions
    1.Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
2.Blot chickpeas with a paper towel to dry them. In a bowl, toss chickpeas with olive oil, and season to taste with salt, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper, if using. Spread on a baking sheet, and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until browned and crunchy. Watch carefully the last few minutes to avoid burning.

  • Absolutely! I actually put a little olive oil in a skillet, drain the can of chick peas and put them in the hot pan. Mash coarsley while roasting and adding whatever spice you want.

If you add taco seasoning, the mashed chickpeas are an excellent taco meat replacement! Add garlic and onion, and you can use it as a layer in lasagne.

  • @ ImaginationMama - what does "mashing" them do? I'm looking for a healthy snack to take to work so that I can pop them in my mouth when I get a "crunchy" urge.

@ specialwingz - have you actually made these??? I've seen recipes using both canned and ones to soak overnight.

  • It is just how I roast them, but if you are looking for a finger food, then, it won't help any. :) It would only be as an ingedient.

Let us know what works out!

  • Yes, I have. My DD even mixes them into her trail mixes sometimes.

  • I love them! Put them in the oven at 450 for 30-40 mins until brown. Then when they come out sprinkle with whatever seasonings you like. I love yellow curry and pepper. Don't sprinkle them with salt or oil before you roast them. They won't stay crisp for very long. Same goes with oil when you pull them out.

  • I do the same thing as above, but sometimes do it as a sweet by drizzling honey over the chick peas (after the hot pepper) to give it a crunch.
