Plant seed expiration

I know they have a sell by date but do my flower seeds have an expiration date. Will they not grow if they sat for soo long?

  • There is a germination method and it doesn't always work but I have gotten lucky and I think it would be worth a try for you:

Dampen not soak a paper towel and sprinkle the expired seeds in it, wrap it up and place in a warm area. Wait about a week and revisit. If the seeds start to germinate you may continue to use if not sorry, gotta buy more updated seeds.

    good luck!

  • Many seeds won't grow if they're too old- I learned that last year. Definitely worth springing for some new ones!!

  • I think if they've sat for too long and have lost all moisture they won't grow. I've had seeds for a couple years that I plantedd and grew though.

  • I found a fairly large tin of mixed flower seeds that were for the year prior. I planted all of them in a large mouthed flowerpot and got a profusion of blooms!

  • I think most will be fine a while after the "best by" date.
