  • It depends on what you teach your child.
My DD knows that the Easter Bunny is not real, but still gets an Easter Basket at 13.
I always taught my DD it is about more than candy.

  • Eastre was a Pagan holiday and since it occured around the same time as the resurrection of Christ... in order to help the Pagans convert to Christianity they sort of altered the pagan celebration to be celebrated in a Christian manner.
Which Eastre is actually a Pagan goddess' name.
Today the modern spelling is of course Easter.
When and where the Easter Bunhny came into play is that the Pagan Goddess Eastre's Earthly symbol is the Rabbit!

SeasideNative! The question you should be asking is When did easter become holy week lol
Oh and juSt another tidbit: the rabbit, or hare, and eggs (which were dyed by boiling them with flowers for the celbration) are symbols of fertility.
