Moms who have lost both parents?

We went to the cemetery this morning to put flowers on my Parents and Grandparents grave and every time we go it breaks me up and I start crying; well this morning my 4 year old said to me "Mommy why are you crying?"

How do you explain to a 4 year old what is going on? We have told them both as to what has happened with their Grandparents and Great Grandparents dying and all but how do you respond to that sort of question? Thanks

  • I have only lost one parent.

When my child asks why I'm crying, I explain that I miss my Dad very much.

  • I also say that he's in a better place so that gives me comfort.

    He understands.

  • you tell them you are having happy tears remembering your parents and thinking of the day you will join them in the afterlife. We took the girlies to see my dad's grave and visited my grampa. Dad had a double stone with mom's name and birth info but she was living at the time. When we went to see grampa's Kitten looked at Granny's name and her date of birth but no date of passing and she looked up with all the wisdom of a 6 y/o and said- i get when you are married you get a doublewide.
