How to deal with teenage girls?

I have 2 teenage girls and one lives with her father. The other one is always in her room on her phone and that is how the oldest one acted. Hardly talks to me or comes down stairs to visit.

I know they say that you shouldn't be friends with your kids, be a parent but shouldn't it work both ways? They should make an effort also right?

  • all you can do is keep trying to find common ground. something to do together - I know, easier said then done. Just don't give up on her.

  • We don't allow cell phones in bedrooms. No computers in bedrooms, no TVs in bedrooms. They have a radio and their ipods, but that's all the electronics allowed in bedrooms. If they can't talk to their friends with someone in the room, they don't need to be having that conversation with that friend.

You also have to be the one the one that asks questions. You want to know what is going on in your daughter's life - ask specific questions. Find an activity you both like and engage in that during the weekends. Don't assume that she doesn't want to socialize with you, assume she doesn't know how.

  • Have you tried making family time a Priority? We have 3 hours a night thats dinner, play games or watch a movie. During those times the Cell Phone's are put away and no computer time unless they are writing a paper or doing research for a paper.
