Gas prices?

I paid 3.72 last week. Today I see on the news prices are up AGAIN!

YET......exxon AND shell are posting 40 & 60% profits - now don't YOU think if exxon cut 10% and Shell 30% they would still be making a nice profit yet allow US to save?

In the past 6 months the 1.00 more per gallon is costing the average family an extra 1k per year......

What do you think WE can do about it?

  • kick their asses! Seriously, I WISH I knew what we could do about it. We pay TAX on gas and right now IL has the HIGHEST gas prices. We pay $4.24 today...and I know in the city it is closer to $4.69

    Something HAS to be done.

  • Honestly, we're kind of stuck. Unfortunately, there isn't much that we CAN do. They can charge high prices because most of us can't live without it, and they know that.

  • We could, "Drill baby drill", but he gave that right to Brazil...

  • Drill as much as you like Wanda, it will not affect gas prices now or in the future . You seem to think there are vast supplies that can be exploited , refined and marketed very cheaply with no international cartels and rabid speculation ever affecting prices again . Dream on .

  • What do you think WE can do about it?

Stop spending on things you don't need, and use the money for things you do need. Like Gas.

  • they keep having "gas outs" where people protest and don't buy gas but it's really not effective for a very simple and logical reason. People NEED gas. And they know it. So they can continue to screw with us with the prices and their is not much we can do but moan and groan. It's one of those things we need to get to those lovely things we call jobs so we can pay for the stinking high gas!!

  • You do realize that 40-60% isn't their profit don't you? The profit MARGIN is actually quite small. Why not ask OPEC to cut prices..why not ask the feds and the states to lower gas taxes....why not ask the EPA to lighten up and allow the same blend to be sold everywhere for a year?

JJB is right...we have to decide what is truly needs and what is just wants and decide what to do without. It's not easy.
