Rude or not rude (Clarified)

Walking up to the cashier at the market with two ear buds in. We have no idea if the phone/ipod is on... but the buds are in both ears.

Is it rude? Should the person have taken one or both out?
Is it not rude? If the phone/Ipod is off then who cares if the ear buds are in?

to clarify... I mean the COSTOMER has the ear buds in.

  • Definitely rude. Its a pain to try to help a costumer when they can't hear you, whether they're on their phone or using earbuds. Especially if they're idiots and don't know how to use the credit card machine, which is always the case.

  • If they were working, it is wrong. I wonder if their manager knows.

Maybe they were returning from break or going on their break.
