  • We paid $20 for a corsage, that's it. I'm not sure next year when it comes to a tux, but this year it wasn't necessary. Our town is too small to have a limo service drive the hour to our town to drive the kids a half mile to the auditorium. So I'll never worry about that.

  • Not a darn thing. My daughter has a job and will pay for her own prom stuff. She's got great money sense, though. She bought her dress this year on sale and only paid $20 for it (it was a $100 dress).

  • My dd is 16 and a sophmore and was invited by her boyfriend who is a Junior. We allowed her to go, they are both good kids. However my dd is not allowed to work until she turns 18. Nor is she allowed to get her license until then. We feel it is a distraction for kids when they work when they should focus 100% of their attention on their education. My dd needs a scholarship to go to college and has a limited college fund. We gladly paid $325 for her dress. Her date paid for the tickets, dinner and everything else.

  • My son just had his. It cost us around $400 (tux rental, tickets, dinner). His date paid around $300 for her dress. So altogether for the couple was around $700 and they didnt do anything overly special.
I know my cousins neighbors son has a gf who goes to another HS then her son. He took her to his prom, she wore a $1000 dress, they had a Hummer limo and went 1st class. The girl said she couldnt be seen in the same dress at her prom, so the dates mom bought her a second dress for $1200. I thought omg wth?

  • What I am saying, is that I will not pay for my daughters prom, my daughter will. That article talks about parents dishing out thousands for their kids proms.
