Just curious...If a girl is named after her mother, is she considered a Jr.? Or is it only a boy thing? Would/ have any of you named a daughter after yourself?

  • the Jr. thing is a male thing...I would not give my daughter my own name...just my opinion..but then again, I wouldn't give my son my dh's name either...I don't like the whole jr. thing.

  • My Aunt named her daughter after her exactly. Sandra Marlene. The Aunt goes by Sissy, the cousin goes by Sandy. Hahaha

  • It typically only applies to males, since they will be keeping the name for life. (It is assumed that girls won't though they certainly can.) I have heard of women naming their daughter's after themselves. Usually, they change it up a little bit, but that isn't even necessary. (Remember on Gilmore Girls, they were both Lorelei Gilmore. Mom went by Lorelei and daughter went by Rory.)

  • I have actually heard of a female JR, but it is typically a male thing...however you don't even have to add the JR or II as a male either.

  • I think Jr is just a boy thing, but I don't know for sure. I wouldn't name my daughter after me, unless it was a middle name kind of thing. I have a friend whos mother, older sister and herself are all three named Maria. I don't know why she named 2 kids Maria...

  • I assume it's a male thing. I don't know any females that are Jr's. I would never name my daughter after me. I find the whole Jr. idea to be annoying.

  • I named my daughter after me. My first and middle name is Crystol Lyn so her name is Crislyn it's different. I know it sound to some like kristin but, you have to say it right.

  • Definitely a male thing. I don't recall anything in literature mentioning a suffix for girls.

As already mentioned, girls are typically expected to change their last name when they've grown, so the suffix would be meaningless.
