The best way to describe it .It's like fudge. It's that consistency just made with different fruits and nuts instead of chocolate. It's a very predominate sweet in India. Traditionally sweets are a big part of celebrations/festivals/holidays just like there are here in the states. Barfi is a pretty standard sweet for those occasions. It's also pretty traditional for Indians to distribute sweets to friends/family/neighbors when they have good news/something good happens (a promotion, a marriage in the family, a birth in the family, a new home..etc) barfi is one of the sweets that is often passed out.
