Anyone with a family member with bipolar ever wonder....

if your loved one TRULY knows you care. Mine I think does, but like they say..."Actions speak louder than words....."

  • I have Bipolar Disorder.....my husband tells me that at times it seems like I don't care about him and at times he wonders if I even LIKE him....it really opened my eyes because I had NO IDEA that he felt that way...I'm off my meds right now because I'm pregnant but I still have a while to go before I can get back on them....I try to show him in other ways that I love and adore him but like you said "actions speak louder then words" and while I tell him constantly how I feel about him, I know he wishes I was more demonstrative...I'm just not a very touchy/feely/affectionate person....but I'm trying to do better now that I know how badly this is affecting him....Just let your husband know how you feel...he may not even know that he's not acting like he should.
    Good Luck mama!

  • It's tricky. My niece is divorcing her bi polar husband because she just can not take the verbal abuse he gives her when he is off his medications. She love him but she is at her limit.

  • My son is bipolar and he is so destructive off his meds I dont think he loves himself, let alone anyone else. I am a firm believer in order to feel love and be loved you have to love yourself first. I love my son but he is so difficult to handle at times.

  • I have a bipolar cousin, my aunt's husband has depression running through his family. But from my experience bipolar people only repeat what everyone else already knows.
Like for example... he said he was cool with me, but his sister could not stand my family blood line. When I asked his sister she said, "Well... we've had our issues in the past."
Then he told my Mom that his family lies all the time and talks about other people like they are trash.
I mean I can guess already that he says these things because someone has said them to him. But it does hurt.
So I also hold his family more accountable for his actions than him! He is ill unlike them.
