At what age is it ok to leave your child or children home alone?

My daughter was about 13 or 14 when I felt she was old enough to be at home alone.

  • Depends on the child and how long they are home alone for.

  • My son was ok for periods at 9. He is NOT like othr kids though. Some i wouldn't leave at 18.

  • I think 13 but also it might depend on their maturity.

  • I don't know when i personally will ever be ok with it but that is because my son is only 3. Growing up, I believe we were 8... my mom had to work 2 jobs though and not much of a choice and we really were mature

  • Definitely depends on the child. With my son, I started leaving him home alone for short periods of time when he was 10; my daughter is 11 and I haven't yet (only because there hasn't been a need to do so) but I'm sure she'd be OK for small amounts of time.

  • It honestly depends on the child and the amount of time. Like BradenIs said - some I wouldn't leave alone for 5 minutes at the age of 18....other's I'd leave for an hour or so as young as 9-10 years old.

  • At least 18. You never know what could happen while you're gone, even for a little while. I mean, what if there was a fire or something or what if someone kidnapped them while you were gone?

  • ANON: You really think a 17y/o needs a babysitter? WTF? They can drive a car alone to work and yet, they can't be trusted at home for any length of time?

  • I should have added: ALL 17y/o do NOT need a baby sitter. Maybe some do, but, not every kid under 18.
