Song for a memorial service.

My father passed away last night. He had been battling cancer for years. I was by his bedside when he passed and he held my hand and asked me one last thing. "Honey, you have such a beautiful voice, but I haven't heard you sing once since I got sick. Not one note. So I need you to promise me something. Promise me that you'll sing a song for your daddy. Sing me a song at my funeral. I want you to perform again. Promise me that." Of course I promised him that. My problem now is what song to sing. He was my hero. I need a song that will do him justice. I need a song to reflect how important he was to me. What songs can you guys think of? I really need some help with this. I haven't had a lot of time to look between explaining to my son where grandpa went and trying to get his affairs in order since I know my poor mother can't do it alone. Thank you so much.

  • I always thought "Amazing Grace" was the best memorial service song.
However, I can barely listen to it without crying, let alone singing it.

I'm really sorry to hear about your father...God gained an angel. ***hugs***

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Just in your dad's words to you, I can tell he was a really special guy, who loved you very very much.

I love the song "Untitled Hymn" by Chris Rice.

But does your dad have a favorite song? Is there a song he loved to hear you sing? Is there a song you sang together, even if just in the car?

If I had to sing a song for my dad tomorrow, I would sing "You Raise Me Up", because he sang it at my wedding and we sang it as a duet. If I could sing it.
