Does it upset you when you hear people feeding their newborn solids at 2 days old, 1 mth old and so on?

I should start with the fact that i am a breastfeeding mother, but i am just wondering if anyone else thinks that starting solids way too soon can cause alot of health issues for these tiny babies!

  • I fed my sons baby rice at 1-2 months Dr. ordered because they could never keep anything down. Breast or Formula.

at 6 months I may feed them a little mashed potatoes..its food and they should be starting solids by then i believe. Both my sons were starting baby food at 5 months and by 9-10 months were on table food except for milk which we waited a year for.

  • 1 day old is ridiculous. I fed my son baby food at 6 months and breastfed also. I don't think it's bad to feed a baby food at 6 months

im not trying to be mean but feeding babies solids too early could cause major problems, their little systems cant handle all that. You shouldnt listen to everything doctors say, most arent educated when it comes to breastfeeding bc they are so big on formula and babyfood. Check out the link i sent!

  • also i dont think feeding them at 6 months is bad, just certian foods and limited,, ex sweet potatoes, apples, grean beans, carrots ect, not rice and beans and mashed potatoes! (loving) not trying to be rude :)

  • I actually talked to multiple pedi's about giving my sons rice. If i didn't they probably wouldn't be alive. They never had any health issues because of it either. They are perfect in weight and height and smart as all get out.

I changed to formula and rice because their systems didn't handle breast milk at all and formula by itself. thats just how it was and I did what was best for my boys.

  • I agree. Most drs don't know crap about BF. I can make a list of all the ridiculous things they've told me. But on the subject of solids, ppl really want to rush their kids into food. I don't know why, but they do. When babies are introduced to food that early on, they can develop allergies later in life. Some ppl believe your baby shd be having solids at 4mos but that's too soon. In Europe, they say 6mos.
I BF until my son was 31mos and he gradually had solids from 8mos til about 14mos. I can see myself holding off on solids with baby #2 until they're about 8mos also.

  • Yes I feel bad for the baby.... I was fed food early & have alot of stomach problems (may/may not be related. will never know!).
As for Drs. I always try to find info out on my own when dealing with things like this. Drs are clueless when it comes to nursing. and it should be LAW they take more classes on breastfeeding. Seriously when your a Pediatrician & dont know crap about nursing.. UR IN THE WRONG FIELD!
