Ground beef has turned a bit brown, but it's not past the experation date yet. Is it safe to cook? I want to add it to my pasta sauce...

  • As long as it does not smell bad, the meat turns brown when air get to it.

  • I've dont it before :) Just make sure you cook it all the way through and you'll be fine.

  • If it's only brown on the outside I would say it's probably ok. I just cooked beef that was a little brown. If it's brown all the way through though I doubt I'd be able to stomach it!

  • Smell it. That will tell you if it's gone bad or not.

  • Ok, hamburger stinks. By "smells bad," they mean "If it smells like doritos." You'll sniff to see if you smell it, but if you have to "look" for the smell, its fine. You'll know as soon as you open it if it really does smell.

  • Beef turns brown when it's exposed to the air so it's still good if most of the inside is pink.
