  • I've had a lot of bad experiences, however... it's usually due to miscommunication or them being overly busy and behind.

I will throw you out some scenario's though.
Patient is really sick, tells the receptionist that she thinks she is going to be sick, the receptionist tells her it will only be a few more minutes...patient pukes in waiting room (and yes this has happened, and it was one of the scenario's used when I was in college for medical coding).
Patient walks in needing to speak with the doctor, but will not tell the receptionist why.
Patient walks in having a hard time breathing, you can see he's in distress.... and his wife is livid, seems that the doctor put him on new meds....and this is after taking the first dose.

Good Luck hun, hope it helps.

  • true story-a northern patient came in to our office (member service) and was told by our receptionist that they are not members. the receptionist rejected them without taking a further step to assist the northern patient. first reason why the receptionist thought they were ineligible was because she entered in the medical number but since there from northern calif. it will not come up. so she did nothing but refuse service. You cannot do this! So the member is putting a complaint. instead of just filing the complaint and sending them away. i look into it. i call the norther call center get the members info and yes they are active. walked them up to the doctors office make them an appt to see the doc that day.
