How do ovulation kits work?

I just got one because we're thinking of having another baby and trying for a boy. And I was wondering what do two lines mean and what does one line mean?

  • Read the kit. 1 line means u don't need to have sex and 2 lines means get your groove on.

  • Ovulation tests detect luteinizing hormone (LH). Just prior to ovulation, women experience a brief surge in luteinizing hormone. Typically 12-48 hours after you get your positive OPK you ovulate.

Usually you will always have two lines appear on the OPK because LH is always present in the body. The test line HAS to be as dark or darker than the control line for it to be a positive OPK.

  • I think it depends on the kit. Mine means 2 lines get it on.
