  • I personally don't see why it's a big deal. If I found out that my son's teacher was gay, it wouldn't upset me in the least.

  • I just wish we could accept one another as humans. It should not even be an issue. As a person who knows several young men who were abused by Catholic priests, including 1 who attempted suicide by hanging, I'm far more concerned about CRIMINALS who might be allowed to teach, than gays or lesbians-

  • I don't think he is talking about sex. I think the point of this whole thing is that straight teachers bring up their spouse at times, or their children (at least my kid's teachers do). It would seem that if a teacher is gay, they are silenced about their personal lives. I don't know any straight teachers that would bring their personal sex life up in class. IMO, any teacher that brings up their personal sex life in the classroom is WAY out of line and should be reprimanded accordingly.

  • I think they are there to teach. If the teacher is gay or straight it is not the business of the student.

  • I feel, why shouldn't they be open about it and why should they be punished for being open? In my high school alone, there were FOUR men teachers booted out for messing around with young girls. Down here in my daughters' school, there were TWO. I think that's more of an issue than someone being gay. I wish people understood that being gay does not mean being a sexual offender...

On another note, I had plenty of teachers whom we new were gay, but back then, it wasn't discussed.

It all goes back to ignorance and toleration, unfortunately.

  • What do you mean jesse? What isn't he open about? Is this gonna degrade into an ignorant "birther" discussion? Haven't they been shut up once and for all?

I don't care about sexuality as long as you're teaching my kid what you're being paid to teach. I wouldn't want a straight teacher talking about his sexuality with my kids in the classroom, either. Even if it's a sex-ed class, YOUR sexuality isn't what's being taught.

  • i honestly could care less.....all my teachers told us about their lives when we had nothing else to do in class(like the male teacher said)
if my sons teachers are open, more power to them i just might end up being his teachers best friend LOL

  • Or maybe jesse is trying to insinuate that our president is secretly a gay teacher.

    Alert the press!

Answer by EgoTryptophan at 12:38 PM on May. 1, 2011

  • Teachers are paid to teach. They should not have to disclose anything more than their teaching certifications.

Answer by meooma at 12:48 PM on May. 1, 2011

  • People should be themselves and not pretend to be something they are not. I don't see why a teacher should pretend they are not gay. I don't think they need to broadcast it , but they need to be true to themselves. I am sure they won't be" teaching gay things'" So there is no reason to insist that "sex be kept out of the classroom". Sex won't be in the classroom. LOL. Yikes! That is alarmist thinking.
