Do you have a safe in your home? how about a safety deposit box?

now that we finally got passports we realize it's time to get one or the other..... but for some reason it seems like a waste of $$$ to me. Are those $50 ones from Target/Walmart good enough? (passports, marriage info, birth certs, that's about it!)

  • We actually have 2 safes - both gifts from my dad, who installs & sells security systems etc, and has access to some of the best stuff in the world. Ours are not top of the line, but they aren't cheap. They won't stand up to a bad fire, and the ones from stores like those won't stand up in a normal fire. If your options are a Wal-Mart safe or a safe deposit box at your bank, go with the deposit box - please don't trust your valuables to a cheap safe.

  • I would get a fire safe one, just in case. We have ours with our get out quick kit.

  • we got a safe thats a turn dial one just for money that we need to invest in remodeling. Looks like you don't need a big one at all like we got, i would think that the ones from walmart or target would be good. We got it at walmart for $130..? its been good to us, we've had it for a couple years now.

Whatever happened to filing cabinets? thats where i store my marriage certificates, birth certificates and all...unless you have really snoopy family and friends but filing cabinets do come with locks too.
