Fun things to do outside

With a 20 month old and a 3 year old. I really don't want to go to the park since this is one of the first days in over a week that theres no rain, so I know the park will be packed, along with the zoo. We've been out almost all morning. They played on their power wheels, they did sidewalk chalk, we did a picnic, they played on the swing set.... I want to soak up as much sun as possible since we are suppose to get more rain,

  • Set up an obstacle course in the back yard

We have a toddler slide, we use that as obstacle #1, then they have to go around the car in the driveway (not near the street), then they jump over a couple of sticks, bounce a ball, run around the bushes, sit on the bench for a quick rest, and back to the slide.

  • Pick up a pool next time you are out for small kids. You can fill it up on sunny days and play with it. We also got a bubble maker and we let the kids play in the pool and we turn on the bubble maker they usually have a ball. We also have a trampoline the kids like playing on.

  • The kids have a pool, but it's only 69 here. So a little too cold for opening up the pool yet.

  • Do a treasure hunt. Sketch a quick map of your backyard, hide a "treasure" somewhere, and have them find it.

Another quick alternative is to cut a piece of paper into 6 pieces, On the first one draw a picture of where they should go to find the next one. On that one draw a picture of where they can find the third one, etc. For example:
    1. Picture of a tree (this is your starting one, just give this to them)
    2. Picture of a big rock (this one is hidden at the tree)
    3. Picture of their swing set ( this one is hidden at the big rock)
    4. Picture of a flowerbed (this one is hidden at the swing set)
    5. Picture of your pocket (this one is hidden in the flowerbed)
    6. On this last one, draw a big "I love you" heart, and put it in your pocket.
