How often do your kids get sweets?

My sister thinks I am crazy because I don't let ds eat sweets that often. I may give him a cookie with his lunch maybe twice a week, but other than that he don't get it. When he is at his grandma she has a candy dish on the table that he gets into. She got piss because I told her that she was giving him to much sweets(she had a bag of Reeses's and she was feeding it to him). I told her just because she allow her child to eat sweets like that does not mean I will do the same thing. I guess I am uptight because many of the kids around here teeth or rotten out before they turn 2! How often do you let your little one eat sweets?

  • They get treats daily, like 1-2 cookies, a thing of fruit snacks, ect. They just get limited amounts.

  • My kids usually get one little thing a day. It may be a small glass of chocolate milk, it may be 2 little cookies, it may be Popsicle... They are 3 and 6. They had no sweets until 1 and very limited until 3. They get plenty of exercise and are a good weight for their size. They also have no dental problems so I am not to worried at this point.

  • Sometimes, not always. Moderation is key... Except ds has been eating m&ms for using the big boy potty!

  • The only time my daughter (4) gets sweets is when she's at my mom's house or my MIL's house...I don't give her any at all because I know that neither of them are going to respect my wishes and not give them to her lol...I figure she gets more then enough when she is over there so she doesnt need any at all when she's at home lol

  • well we just finished the last of the easter candy, plus sunday night circus we brought home cotton candy. we're now on sugar detox til may 30th, my daughters birthday. sweets and treats are for special occasions and holidays in our house. After Molly's birthday on May 30th we'll have a few goodies during the summer. Smores once, major junk fest at the county fair, and a trip to dairy queen the 1st day the temp reaches 90 something. other than that.... nope. plain yogurt, fruit, home made sugar free ice pops, milk is white only, and lots of water.

  • I think people have very different visions of "sweets"..... in my house we'd consider most yogurts and granola bars a a dessert. Ditto on most breakfast cereals.....

  • Not often. My DD eats a lot of fruit and that has enough sugar in it, but I don't refuse her sweet things such as cake and cookies during holidays or birthdays. When she does have popsicles they're 100% fruit, so she does get them more often but they're just another serving of good stuff for her IMO.

    She's 25% weight.
