How often do your kids get small gifts/treats?

Like something from a gumball machine, a new matchbox car, or even just a special treat, like a donut when grabbing coffee for yourself at Dunkin Donuts, etc.? I guess how many times a week do you spend, say $3 or less on something special or fun for your kids?

  • I don't know really....probably too often though. I give them treats in the car to keep them from fighting after we're done shopping. If I get something, my kids to too.

  • Anytime we go to the grocery store and they have been good while I shop I will offer to let them pick out a small treat afterwards. That's about once a week.

  • Whenever I am at Starbucks I always ask my daughter if she would like something to drink or eat. Every time I'm at a store and I see something cute (or even practical) that I think my daughter would like, I buy and save it for the right time. I leave a little gift or a book I think she might like on her bed or her seat in the car, so when I pick her up she'll get surprised. I do the gifts ONLY when I want to cheer her up, or if she has reached a goal, or she has done really well on a test that she has worked so hard and studied for. So the gifts are not a weekly occurance, but when I feel it might help boost her a little. I do have a tradition of buying her some fun stuff (journal, nail polish, summer toys/books, etc.) on the last day of every school year. She loves it!!! Hope this helps.

  • Also, one thing she loves is that every time we travel I hide some new stuff in her bag and she loves finding them in her bag using them during the trip.

  • Almost every day. My 6 yr old and me have a daily ritual. I pick her up from school and as long as she didnt move a clip that day she can spend $1-3 at dollar general. Some times shes gets a drink, sometimes gum, today she got a push pop, sometimes she gets cheap toys. If she moves a clip though she doesnt get anything.

  • To often they expect it everytime they see a machine with a toy or candy but they are good kids and they are rewarded when going the extra step
