Are sesame seeds okay to eat during pregnancy? i was reading some things not to eat and they came up....i don't know why!

  • Sesame seeds come from the opium plant...if you eat enough of them (although it has to be a HUGE amount) you can get high

  • After doing a google search, I guess some people believe that sesame seeds might cause miscarriage but there doesn't seem to be any science to back that up.

  • yeah, that is poppy seeds....it was just on a list with no explanation. i was wondering if anyone knew?

  • Poppy seeds are used for opium, and you cannot get high from eating them... I guess unless you eat an entire field of them.

    Sesame seeds come from the sesame plant, and it was once thought that they could cause miscarriage. That's an old wives tale though. There are docs and other practitioners who recommend avoiding them during the first trimester if you have spotting or other complications. However, you can have them in moderation after the first trimester (again this advice is mainly for those with complications). The best thing to do is to ask your doctor about it, just to be sure.
