Photos and would you?

Would you have a friend who could potentially save you hundreds or thousands of dollars, take your wedding, family maternity, or boudoir portraits for you???

And this friend does pretty damn good work on a reg camera, but is not a professional?

What are your thoughts?

  • I would. If you like their pictures, why not have them do it?

  • no. I won't risk a good friendship over a few thousand dollars. You will have expectations of this friend capturing all these important moments of your life while this individual is not getting paid for it. More importantly, he or she may actually just want to be there, enjoying the moment with you. Maybe your friend can help you pick out a good photographer.

  • I forgot to add, my brothers wedding got done by a professional, they were horrible. He spent like 2000 for an hour. WE had a cousin offer to do and her pictures are absolutley gorgeous.

  • I'm asking in general... I've had several people that I know do photography on the side..... myself included.
I've done 3 weddings thus far. (for nothing, cause was family)

I'm just asking from another view point (and still paying whomever is photo'ing the event) if its something you'd do. And say, its a friend of a friend and they would not be included in the event -like wedding..... but what about family portraits or maternity?
Is it worth it to spend the thousand bucks or spend $50-$100?

  • Perfect photos don't equal a perfect marriage, so why spend a buttload of money on them? If your bud takes good photos, have them do it. Just work out in advance what everyone's expectations are, in writing.

  • I would if they had the talent for seeing good pictures. My cousin asked my dad to be their photographer when she got married because he always had a camera in his face when we were kids. I have thousands of pictures of me when I was little (all on film). The pictures turned out great and they loved them. He mostly did the staged pictures (of the wedding party and stuff) but also took candids and some of the ceremony. I don't know if they paid them. He probably refused if they tried.
Just because a person isn't a "professional" doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing. And you don't need fancy equipment. The professional that did my son's hospital pics used a digital camera, natural light, a white sheet and a laptop to touch them up. Just like I have (although his camera was about $500 more than mine). But mine works just as good.

  • Let him do it, why spend all that money on pictures, half the people I know that spent alot of money on weddings and pictures aren't even married anymore, today you can make them look professional with the help of your computer
