Do you take your kids?-Edited

If you go to therapy, do you take your kids with you?

Like counseling. I just asked because I am forced to take my son with me today because I have no one to watch him since my husband is at work late tonight and I stay at home.

  • I wouldn't. Speaking as someone who went to a lot of marriage counselling with her parents (and I was 13 and could have stayed home easily), once you are conscious of what's going on, it's extremely traumatic to share a parent's issues and pain.

And if you are too young to be conscious or really understand- anythign from, say, birth to 4- you will be a huge distraction unless you are a baby and lucky enough to be asleep, which you can't predict.

  • What kind of therapy... like PT or counseling?

I don't go to either, but if it was for me then no I wouldn't take them with me.

  • if the child is not part of the counseling session then you need to reschedule!! That's inappropriate, I'm sure your counselor would not appreciate it either.
