  • wow - that's young to have thyroid issues. Is she on medication? Beyond that, just basic nutrition and fitness. My ex has hypothryoidism, but he was in his 30s when diagnosed and never had any weight issues.

  • Yes, she is 8 and weighs 96 lbs I have a 6 year old that weighs half of that I think. Ugh! My poor friend.

  • Thats an under active thyroid right? I think they give (older) people medication to speed it up a bit. NOt sure if they do for kids, although her doctor should know all of that.

  • I became hypo at age 12. The child needs to be on medication, either Armour thyroid or synthroid. Then the blood should be tested several times a year until the right levels are achieved. Then once or twice a year after that. There may be some weight gain at first. This will correct itself once the throid levels are corrected.
