Any tips on getting a mildewy smell out of carpet?

We had a leaky pipe and it is now fixed, got everything dried up, rented a dehumidifier and everything , shampooed and dried carpets, still has a slight smell.

  • Buy carpet freshener that you leave on the carpet and vacuum up a couple hours later. They have many different kinds. You will probably have to do that several times, but it should eventually work. GL

  • have you tried baking soda over night? it might absorb the smell.

  • I agree with Resolve and with baking soda. You have to watch too because the dampness no doubt went down through the carpet into the padding. The padding could be what is holding the smell. That is a tough one to get clean too. Good luck.

  • Odo Ban ... follow directions on the bottle and soak the area good... allow to dry naturally ...

then redo again making sure you soak the area ...

again let dry naturally.. It will also kill germs/bacteria in the carpet...

you can find it at Lowe's...
