Is it normal for a 7 year old girl to have a bladder infection?

What could cause this? My friends step daughter has one and she is very concerned

  • Also bubble baths could cause UTI for some girls.

  • It is very common in little girls. They are not always the greatest at wiping the correct way all the time, and girls are super-susceptible. The doctors will say that it is normal. But, if your friend is concerned, is there something else that is happening that is concerning her? Is there some adult that is concrening her? She should focus more on those aspects.

  • Some girls are prone to them. Reinforcing good hygene, clean underwear, and lots of fluids should help.

  • I used to get them when I was that young. I am still pretty prone to them- despite being meticulous about hygiene.

  • It can happen. Recurring UTIs in young girls can be a sign of a problem and should be followed up on, though. My best advice is not to use bubble bath and stress wiping front to back- eliminating those factors can reduce significantly the number of UTIs. HTH!
