  • I intentionally named my daughters long names that you could have a nickname (or short form). I did this because I have a very short name & always wished for a long name that I could have a nickname. My girls love their names.

  • I like nicknames. I call my son Zaiah and my daughter Coley.. I dont like names that pick on children. Like if a kid is chunky and someone calls them FAT FAT.

  • I think they are fine as long as they are not cruel, or graphic (profane).

  • I really hate when people try to nickname or shorten my kid's names. My inlaws tried that, I corrected them

  • I like them but get confused as to whether I should introduce my kid with the nick name or real name. Her name is Amelia Anne (After Amelia Earheart and Anne Frank) but we call her Emmy (NOT after Emmy Rossum). I've been introducing her as Emmy.

  • It's not about shortening the names, it's about making it more casual in a casually social setting.

Yeah my brother and sister in law call their son "hippo" cause he's chunky. It's so mean! I want to smack them for it because if they encourage the name, other kids will start calling him hippo too and what if it hurts his feelings one day?
